Toy Story 1 & 2 in 3D!

Rating: 8 out of 10

A few weeks ago I went to the showing of Toy Story 1 & 2 in 3D! It was like being pulled back in time, but in 3D! First of all, I have to say that there is certainly a big 3D kick, and although I do not enjoy purchasing the 3D glasses every time I go see one of these movies (and I've seen about 5 or 6 now) the technology still amazes me!

For those of you who have never seen the original Toy Story 1 & 2 movies, they're about toys that are alive and friendship overcoming all obstacles. (When I was younger I would try to sneak in on my toys after seeing this movie, hoping that they were real... hehe.) The 3D effects were used in a way that warranted them. There weren't any cheesy 3D effects just haphazardly thrown in there. They felt like truly revitalized versions of the movies from my younger days.

One thing I got a kick out of (and appreciated) was that Disney and Pixar even thought to include an intermission, which was much needed for me and I'm sure any little kids around me. They also had a little introduction in the beginning as if the toys were watching the movie, which was a cute detail.

Random detail I noticed: the old man in Toy Story 2 who comes in to fix Woody up is the SAME old man in one of Pixar's shorts who plays chess against himself. It's kind of funny that Pixar adds things like that; I think it's to add just that little bit extra for true fans.

The one drawback, which simply could not be helped was by the middle of the second movie I was getting a little antsy. Perhaps if I had never seen the movies before it would have been alright, but I already knew the ending going in. I'm not one for sitting in a single place for three hours in general, and I never go see the same movie twice in theaters. However, I stuck it out until the end and got to enjoy one of my favorite special features that more movies NEED to include -- the bloopers! I LOVE BLOOPERS. And 3D cartoon ones are no exception!

All in all, Toy Story 1 & 2 gets 8 out of 10. And that's means it was pretty darn good. =)
